CLEAN! Not too much algae.
about a 30 minute drive east of las vegas and a 20-45 min hike depending on your fitness.

went there last week with my sweetheart and had a wonderful time.
I'll be there often so if anyone wants to go let me know!!!
I recommend being prepared for the HEAT! In other words an early start is best unless you don't mind doing a night hike (gps, headlamp, hiking buddy in addition to standard hiking essentials)

Re: Gold strike Canyon Hot Springs (east of Las Vegas)
Sun, April 13, 2008 - 7:47 PMLooks like maybe not a place to camp when rain is a possibility; flash flood issues? Would love to check it out sometime though...
What's the sanitation and public safety officer situation? It looks fairly difficult to get 100 feet away from the water there... -

Re: Gold strike Canyon Hot Springs (east of Las Vegas)
Wed, April 16, 2008 - 4:47 PMI've been there twice, and I didn't get the impression that the BLM hikes the canyon. The terrain is rough enough that atv's and horses cant get there. Until you get to the first spring it is all dry stream bed and canyon, so you can always hike back up the trail and find suitable locations to do the doo, ya know? I have seen remnants of campfires. I don't see why camping can't happen.

Re: Gold strike Canyon Hot Springs (east of Las Vegas)
Thu, April 17, 2008 - 5:27 PMWe go there about once or twice a year, but access the HS from the Black Canyon Section of the Colorado River by launching kayaks just below the dam. It's a bit of a climb that requires some bouldering. We then head downriver to Boy Scout HS, then on to Arizona HS for the night. Arizona HS does have a couple of pit toilets and plenty of space for camping. AZ HS is very nice too! -

Sat, April 26, 2008 - 1:08 PMBy going via kayak, you also get a wet sauna, @ Sauna Cave, a few hundred yards upstream from Gold Strike, on the Colorado.
