howdy all. just thought i would post about another hot spring that i visited recently. it is an abandoned hot springs resort named warm springs out in the middle of nowhere nevada. i posted a picture in the pictures section, check it out.
it is on highway 6 about 50 miles east of tonopah where the highway intersects with the extraterrestrial highway (375). its just a couple of old abandoned buildings and a really nice big hot springs pool. don't let the name warm springs fool you, the water is about 104 at the end of the pool where it is channeled in from the ditch and around 98 at the other end, where it outlets. as you can see in the picture on the upper right hand side, the ditch runs up into the hillside where it comes out of the ground. i can't even imagine how hot it is up there. the pool is huge, about 25 feet by 75 feet and up to 5 feet deep, you can swim laps in it. there is even a changing room and the pool was very clean, obviously cared for by someone. the water was very clean as well with hardly a scent of sulphur. it is gated off with a keep out sign, but there is a big hole in the fence behind the changing room, and i didn't see one car pass in the 2 hours i was out there. seriously, its in the middle of nowhere. a nice excursion while out there is to drive off the highway about 10 miles west into a huge open valley where i saw hundreds of wild horses roaming around. and the ghost town of tybo to the northeast is kind of cool if you are into that kind of thing.

Another Nevada hot spring
Fri, October 22, 2004 - 4:54 PMTwo weekends ago, friends and I camped up in Virgin valley, Nevada (In the Sheldon Reuge area) up in the northwest part of the state.
Bog Hot spring is quite nice! It's a 15 ft wide creek that is hot! If the 110 degrees is too hot, all you have to do is wade further downstream to cooler temperatures.
I'll post a photo of it in my album.

Unsu...
Re: Another Nevada hot spring
Mon, October 25, 2004 - 2:37 PMBog Hot varies in depth from 12 to 30 inches. Some people have built small dams to create tubs in the cooler areas. Small benches were cut into the side of the bank in others.
Warning - The nearest services is 18 miles away. The nearest city is 100 miles away - Winnemuca. Make sure your car is in tuned and serviced. make sure your spare tire is inflated.
About 20 miles away there is a hot spring in the middle of the Virgin Valley campground. The springs are also piped to a shower fixture. But I found the water only not warm enough for my tastes.

Re: warm springs nevada
Mon, March 7, 2005 - 1:48 AMIf you're in Vegas, we have quite a few pools and springs to be found if you're up for a hike or even a reasonable drive.
The best (and easiest) is the Tacopa Baths. Think Native bath house, it was open 24/7 and free tho they changed that recently so now the hours are 6 am to 11 pm most nights with seperate sides for guys and gals, two pools in both sides, hot (103) cool (about 100)
For the ruffer folks we've got the arizona hot springs on the other side of the dam (about 3.4 miles over the hoover dam on the Az side) it's a three ile hike down to the river, turn left and look for the first creek coming out and follow it back, you'll come to a hot water fall (as in steamin in cool weather) with a ladder next to it, at the top are three pools that start hot right outah the rock and end in reasonally warm, great camping sites right at the base too.
The springs ont eh nevada side are suppose to open again in a month btw, more info to follow. -

Re: warm springs nevada
Wed, March 16, 2005 - 4:35 PMi love arizona hot springs, i was there around christmas. spent a night camped on the beach by the colorado river, it was lovely.
goldstrike canyon (the springs on the nevada side of the dam) is also amazing, with several pools of varying temperatures. i've been told that there's a different way to access it while the highway construction is going on, i'll have to see if i can find the directions. -

Re: warm springs nevada
Tue, March 22, 2005 - 10:28 PMunfortunately they have buried the springs in the Nv side. Not sure whose Idea that was and when I find out I want to share my grey matter with them...or maybe just a tire iron. -

Re: warm springs nevada
Thu, March 24, 2005 - 12:01 AMare you talking about goldstrike canyon (near the hacienda casino)? there are many pools in that canyon - are they *all* buried? i wonder if it was a result of the road construction... regardless it totally sucks. but i suspect that industrious locals will dig them out eventually.
