hi folks. I'm planning to be in the area between Ventura and Los Angeles proper to visit family for a few days before/aroun New years (might even stay over through NYEve?) and wondered if anyone was planing a day trip with some mellow people (we;re not the party type, like natur without the beer cans way better!). hike in would be good, weather permitting.
I'm thinking any of the following...Willet near Ojai (Sespe is also a possibility ut it;s a long hike!). Deep Creek, maybe Gaviota (anyone been there recently? on my way home: I lie in Sf Bay area.)
it might be me, me and my 14 year old daughter (who prefers to wear a swimsuit herself bu is cool with clothing optional places) or me and a male friend and my daughter. I'm open to othr suggestions for hot springs. I have family in Ventura, Pasadena, and Hollywood areas, pretty comfortable with a trip within an hou or two of any of these locations.
let me know soon. planning to spend my birthday, Dec 24 at Sierra HS. email is good contact me through Tribe if you are planning a day thing an of these places or somewhere else (a low key, clothing otional, not too fancy or expensive retreat with hot springs would be fine too if there is one in southern California you can recommend.
how is Wheelers Hot Springs retret these days?
thanks and hope to meet some of you in warm water soon! happy whatever holidays you prefer and a joyous and prosperous new year!

Re: Southern California...hot springs day trips around New years?
Wed, December 17, 2008 - 11:39 AMI heard that Gaviota is not too clean / not very well kept.
I suggest another one that is in the Santa Barbara mts. Big Caliente...its a little bit of a drive...also check to make sure roads are not closed due to the recent fires.
Have fun!

Re: Southern California...hot springs day trips around New years?
Wed, December 17, 2008 - 12:37 PMThe road from Santa Barbara to Big Caliente just opened after the fires. I drove in about 2 weeks ago and the signs said road closed but you could actually get through, but had to wait at a few work crew locations. Right now I would worry about the wet weather. The roads are probably pretty muddy and there are a few washes to drive through that may not be passable.
I would try Sespe, I've heard its a long hike and I haven't been there but I also heard it is nice. Thats the next hot springs for me to see in that region.
