Hi,
I'd like to know how low the tide has to be in Marin to enjoy the hot Springs near Stinson Beach. I know it has to be below 0 but wonder what's the best day
Thanks for any information about this

Re: Marin Hot Springs this weekend
Thu, October 25, 2007 - 2:34 PMIt is best if you look at a tide chart, so you'll know exactly when low tide is.
Red Rock beach used to have a web site that linked to Stinson Beach's tidal chart, but I can't find that.
If you can find that out, please let us know! -

Re: Marin Hot Springs this weekend
Fri, October 26, 2007 - 2:22 PMIIRC, there actually has to be a negative tide for the hot spring to appear. A low but positive number at "low" tide might not be enough.
Also, when low tide occurs is slightly different depending on location. So the lowest tide might be slightly earlier or later than what is posted for the Golden Gate Bridge or Bolinas. (You could compare the two, and then prolly split the difference).
And, of course, low tide is when it is at its lowest. So you want to be there *before* that point, so you can enjoy the hot spring as the tide is lowering.
So tempting...may want to go myself!

Fri, November 9, 2007 - 12:37 PMBetter make sure the beaches aren't closed due to the oil spill.

Re: Marin Hot Springs this weekend
Fri, May 9, 2008 - 10:39 PMIt has to be way below zero, like at leas a foot. The best low are in winter -- but then there are the swells you have to watch for. I went a couple of times I thought were good without luck. If you cant walk out, there is a gnawrly goat trail you can take down from the cliffs (a few hundred feet). -

Re: Marin Hot Springs this weekend
Sun, May 11, 2008 - 12:11 PMHow have the tidepools doing? It seems like there have been a few low tide mornings and very little swell. I was hoping to go last week but wasn't able to get there early. Always easier to make it out in the fall when the lows are near sunset and the moon is full. How about camping sites nearby? Any recommendations for sites that don't need advance reservations and aren't always full? Sure love the natural beauty of the coastal countryside up there. Waking up and jumping in the hot pools at dawn would be wonderful. Have a nice soak! -

Re: Marin Hot Springs this weekend
Wed, May 14, 2008 - 12:05 AMmy experiences there have always been at a minus 1.5 or greater. And the terrain is always changing due to coastal erosion over the winters. one year the hot spring was situated under 3 or 4 huge boulders which a soaker had to go under water between the boulders to get to the hot water. pretty scary if you ask me but it didn't stop me. dunno if i'd do it again. now i'm curious what it's like now....
there are some minus 1.5's or great coming up the first week of june in the early AM if anyone cares to explore and seek. ;)
heck, i'm happy just chillin' at red rock with a frisbee. LOL
