  • Yes! Tecopa is great. I have pictures from our family's recent trip (we were there around March 20th 2009) there, pics are only of the mud baths (which are free, primitive and wonderful!). One of them is of the sign that you see on Tecopa Hot Springs Rd. where you want to park to get to the mud baths

The water varies with air temperature, wind speed, we went on a still day (air temp about 65-70) and the water, and mud were good and hot, i didn't bring a thermometer but i'd say about 105 through out the main pool with the mud over some of those fissures being waaay hotter( i hear they're 115 and up, i didn't feel anything that hot though).

The water cools to very cold as the water comes near the road, so any temperature can be found, the cooler parts of the water are inhabited by frogs, fish etc. The algae around the pool on the reeds in the only gross thing, but not a detractor as the rest of it is great!

We stopped at the Tecopa Hot Springs Resort (the one with the heron on its sign) and slept there a night, the tubs are natural untreated continuous flow through mineral water. about 104 degrees. 2 tubs very nice but indoors in tiny blue, private rooms. $15 a night for 2 people to camp in an rv site. they have tent spaces, and rental rvs and cabins too.
    • Oohh, oohh, I was also gonna say that we went on a windy day, and the water was cold! well not RIGHT ON the fissures, there we found some warm spots, but still, the pools were cold. Kind of a nice juxtaposition sitting on hot vents with the rest of your body in cold water.
      • Went last month, and it was awesome. The mud is amazing and it's just like whitney described. I didn't go for the $ pools in town, but from what I've read the wild ones are way better anyway. There is also another natural hot spring off the same road that I didn't have the time or inclination to check out, but will next time.
  • The hot springs in Tecopa are nice but men and women are separate. The cost is $7.00 per person per day during operating hours or included in the camp fee. The springs are operated by California Land Management. There are other places in the area that have hot springs as well. Delight's which has rooms, cabins, and R.V. Sites. Delight's has four pools in four separate buildings, two of which has roofs and two are open to the sky. There is however another smaller spring behind Delight's that's called the Wild Tub. It's very small, but out in the open and free. It's on BLM land and you can stay there as long as you stay 500 feet away from the spring itself. The free springs are located on a gravel road called Furnace Creek Rd. Look for some small palm trees along the gravel road and the springs will be located there. Have a wonderful time if you go.
