I have 5 nights to do the 395 tour in September. The upper part has travertine, buckeye and the lower seems to have a whole bunch. I'm trying to figure out the best route. Hit the south first and work the way back up and around? Also, what are some don't miss spots. I was reading my thread from 2 years ago(finally I'm making it) and it seems hot creek may be closed due to volcanic activity?

Any info. appreciated.

Happy soaking :)

Hot creek is usually VERY crowded. I 've been there with hundreds of people and there was a tour bus parked there too. But it is very interesting to look at can maybe be a good soak if you can get find a spot . If you have a guide book you should check out the neihboring hp's in the area. Such as the crab cooker, The hot tub, Pulky's pool(?) (I think its called) and others that are pretty nice. If you have the time and a sturdy vehicle (with good tires) You should definitley check out Saline Valley. There is a Saline valley tribe also. Check it out! As far as camping goes there are numerous campgrounds along 395 most are close to the base of the seirras.
