Re: Diana's Punch Bowl - Nevada
Wed, January 14, 2009 - 1:45 PMNo, but I'm thinking about checking it out soon along with a backpacking trip in the vicinity. I've heard its a sight to see. It doesn't sound like the source pool is cool enough for bathing though. -

Re: Diana's Punch Bowl - Nevada
Wed, January 14, 2009 - 1:48 PMThe source pool is deadly, but I heard there are scattered run-off pools around the base. -

Re: Diana's Punch Bowl - Nevada
Wed, January 14, 2009 - 4:13 PMI went there last Sept. As a little side trip after going to Monitor valley hot springs. Interesting geological feature. But unfortunatley some A-HOLE SUCUMBAG SLIME lowered himself into the crater and spray painted his name, date and an A anarachy symbol in HUGE neon pink letters about 3 or 4 feet high!! Completley ruining the experinece. And, oh yeah there is a hot creek flowing out of the base... Whoever you are that did that I hope you fall and break you're leg and have togo thru the emabaressment of being medivaced out of wherever. If you try it again! Peace -

Re: Diana's Punch Bowl - Nevada
Thu, January 15, 2009 - 3:17 PMWent there year before last on a sidetrip from Spencers.
Really a cool feature ( 3 pics on page 33 of my profile) , stopped and asked a guy running a grader for directions and he said
" Watch out , It will swallow your truck like nothing."
He was right , the crater is on top of a mound of dirt with auto and cycle tracks leading right up to it.
If you did not know it was there or came upon it in the dark , it could be a helluva ride!!
Sorry to hear some stupid bastard desacrated it , to bad his rope didn't break.

Re: Diana's Punch Bowl - Nevada
Wed, January 21, 2009 - 8:01 PMI went there a few years back-- an amazing feature, there's a dirt hill you can drive up and the suddenly you're at the edge of a deep crater filled with very hot water, no fence, no sign, no nuthin. You;d need to rope off from your vehicle if for some reason you wanted to get down to some boiling water. However there are seeps around the bottom of the hill just right for a soak. It's quite a remote and quiet place, I was glad to see another vehicle out there after awhile. Too bad about the vandalism, that's why folks close down springs. -

Re: Diana's Punch Bowl - Nevada
Wed, January 21, 2009 - 8:38 PMSo it looks kind of remote, where do you stay the night? -

Re: Diana's Punch Bowl - Nevada
Thu, January 22, 2009 - 9:04 AMit is very remote, you stay wherever you want! -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: Diana's Punch Bowl - Nevada
Fri, January 23, 2009 - 2:34 PMwhat is the road like to the spring. Car friendly? -

Re: Diana's Punch Bowl - Nevada
Fri, January 23, 2009 - 4:27 PMYes, good gravel road all the way from hiway 50. The side road to the hill(?) is maybe a little rough but its not long. -

Re: Diana's Punch Bowl - Nevada
Tue, June 23, 2009 - 2:34 PMBelated addition here -- I stopped by last Fall and was blown away by the pool and the plant life growing around the lip of the water. There's a good soak back up the valley a bit but most of the land is private and not camp-able. A HIGHLY RECOMMENDED side trip is the route to the east through Little Grand Canyon. There are places where your seat belt will cling to YOU but it's worth it for the heart-stopping, brake-drum-grabbing surprise that waits for you.
Especially in a big rig.
Just don't drive faster than you can see the road! -

Re: Diana's Punch Bowl - Nevada
Wed, June 24, 2009 - 9:11 AMThat's a mighty big side trip if I am getting you right. 450 miles? However, that is just the sort of thing I am into on a road trip. I love those kind of roads. Which highway is it exactly?

Has anyone stayed here?
