hey folks... i am a hitchhike from new jersey who just hitched a ride with someone out of the state of jersey (cant hitch in jersey). The stipulation is i bring him and his girlfriend to some hot springs, no big deal, except were in the east... I have never been to or heard of any out here. I was hoping for north Carolina or Georgia or somewhere of that nature (few hundred miles south of jersey ). I've been looking online for days, kinda avoiding those hot springs books because i like the natural less tourist vibe. I have seen Ducket but those seem very commercialized..please any idea?!

Re: EAst side hot springs!?
Sat, December 13, 2008 - 11:17 AMThe "hot springs and hot pools in the southwest" or northwest have some hot springs in the east coast. These are the old school books that are continually updated so they actually do include the east, at least whats there. I think there are about 5 total. Plus you should be aware that all hot springs tend to be in the books. I own several books for several areas and use more than one when I am springing. Several people have told me about hot springs that are not in any books and give me detailed directions, then I go to my car look through the books and find that very hot springs. So far there is not one hot spring people have told me about that I could not find in one of my books!

Tue, December 30, 2008 - 9:09 PMSad, but I don't think there's any hot water east of the front range. Warm Springs is just that, as is AR. Bit more than that few hundred miles. OTOH, warm water is better than none ... :)

Tue, January 6, 2009 - 10:05 AMIn Virginia and W VA there are the VERY developed springs of White Sulphur Springs (the Greenbrier) and the Homestead. But these places are VERY pricey and ultra posh. -

Re: East side hot springs!?
Fri, January 9, 2009 - 9:15 PMI did some digging around. There are hot swimming holes off-road. Pisgah National Forest in particular seemed to have a few. You'd need to do some google diving, but there are pages out there with directions, and if you get a little ways from roads it's likely clothing optional. This might help as a jumping off point:

I'd call these warm springs, though, as the hottest water you'll find will be 100F or possibly a smidge over. See: geothermal.geol.vt.edu/HotSprings.html . To get hotter water, you need magma somewhere down below, which means Front Range and west.
